Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Resources

While 1 in 5 people will experience a mental illness during their lifetime, and 1 in 6 U.S. youth experience a mental health disorder between ages 6-17, most everyone faces challenges in life that can impact their mental health. Despite these stats, there is hope for thriving with mental illness through holistic, collaborative approaches.

Signs and Symptoms

According to the NIMH3, an adolescent might need help if they:

  • Lose interest in activities
  • Have reduced energy
  • Have difficulty sleeping or eating
  • Spend more time alone
  • Excessively exercise, diet, and/or binge eat
  • Harm themselves (e.g., burning or cutting their skin)
  • Use alcohol, tobacco, or other drugs
  • Engage in risky or destructive behavior
  • Have thoughts of suicide
  • Think their mind is out of their control or hear things other people cannot hear
